The Rutherford Grange of Napa Valley, is proud to announce its first Children's Chorus! The first season will begin this Spring with rehearsals beginning on Tuesday, January 26, 2010. The Spring concert will be held at the Rutherford Grange on Sunday, May 23.
Shauna Mackenzie, the Founding Director, comes to Napa with an extensive musical background including a B.A. Music, Vocal Performance from CSU Monterey Bay, a choral CD recording with Yo-Yo Ma, a choral concert at Carnegie Hall, 8 years singing in the Southern California Children's Chorus, 5 years as a piano teacher and a guest choral conductor for Voices by the Sea in Monterey, CA. She brings with her an enthusiasm for children, music and a belief that music is the most universal form of communication, bridging the gaps between cultural divides by bringing children together to share their passion for music with one another. Shauna has big plans for this chorus!
The Rutherford Grange Children's Chorus will be broken into two choruses: the Intermediate Chorus and the Concert Chorus. Both Choruses require an audition to join and both choruses are open to children of 8-18 years old. The auditions will be held Tuesday, January 19, 2010 at the Rutherford Grange beginning at 4pm. Each audition will be private and in 10 minute increments. Please call or email to schedule your audition time. The audition will consist of a questionnaire, a short musical aptitude test, a sung scale, pitch matching and a solo performance of either Happy Birthday or Joy To The World. You may choose which you wish to perform. You will be accompanied by a piano.
The tuition per semester is $60 per child payable with a check. This includes the basic materials required. At this point we will not have uniforms provided but will require a simple black and white standard attire for performances. Rehearsals will begin January 26, 2010 and will be every Tuesday thereafter until the final concert in May. The Intermediate Chorus will rehearse from 4-5pm and the Concert Chorus will rehearse from 5-6:30pm.
